For those visitors who wish to explore the very best of Belgrade Tourism Attractions, the good news is that the Serbian capital offers dozens of interesting historic sights and countless hidden gems.
We have put together a list of attractions and points of interest that should be included in any Belgrade Sightseeing Tour:
One place that no tourist seems to want to miss is Belgrade Fortress. Made up of Kalemegdan Park, the Upper Town and the Lower Town, there has been some form of fortification here overlooking the Danube and Sava rivers since Roman times, but much of what you see today dates back to the nineteenth century. The Fortress is deserving of a couple of hours of your time as there are plenty of places to eat nearby and it is also a fascinating spot to people watch. Before heading back into town we suggest you enjoy a leisurely stroll along the river front and watch the river cruisesand Sava river traffic pass by.
Leaving the fortress area, Knez Mihailova is the main street stretching from Kalemegdan Park to Terazije. This main Belgrade thoroughfare buzzes with life 52 weeks per year, and is home to many of Belgrade's most attractive nineteenth century buildings, as well as many of its finest boutique shops.
Kosancicev Venac Street is another street that you should factor into your sightseeing itinerary. This delightful cobbled street gives the visitor a good sense of how a typical Belgrade street looked and felt like before the conflicts of the twentieth century took their toll. Kosancicev Venac is undoubtedly one of the more bohemian places in Belgrade and, although not as impressive as Skadarlija, its quirky galleries and imaginative cafes give it a more earthy feel than its more famous counterpart.
Skadarlija is picture postcard Belgrade - one of the enduring images of the Serbian capital that often features in Belgrade Guide Books and tourist magazines. Although its popularity with tourists means it is not quite the de facto bohemain quarter it once was, Skadarlija retains a charm and Old World feel that makes a visit here a must. After enjoying an authentic Serbian lunch as part of our Skadarlija excursion, set off for Kalenic Market. To get the very best out of this fascinating part of Belgrade, join one of our Kalenic Market tours, before heading down to Belgrade Railway Station for a quick slice of retro cool. Some describe Belgrade Railway Station as decrepit and in need of modernisation. We think that Belgrade Railway Station feels like a Black & White movie with its gorgeous ornate station buildings, old school cafes and trains that look like they have been transported forward in time from the 1950s. Belgrade Out There can arrange transfers to and from Belgrade Railway Station as well as train tickets to Montenegro and Budapest. For more details contact us.
Continuing our tour of Belgrade's top attractions, we suggest time spent at the Royal Compound, Republic Square, the National Theatre and a visit to the enigmatic St. Mark's church.
One often overlooked attraction is also the world famous Red Star stadium. Join our Red Star stadium tour and discover the rich history and unforgettable ambience of one of the world's most atmospheric football stadiums.
Finally, no trip to Belgrade is complete without nipping out of the city centre to visit Ada Ciganlija. Here you will find some of Belgrade's finest clubs, bars, restaurants andday time activities on offer. Ada Ciganlija even boasts Serbia's finest golf course!
The range and quality of Hotels in Belgrade has vastly improved during the past decade. If you are searching for a hotel in Belgrade then you should have no problem finding one that suits your pocket, tastes or desired location.
Accommodation in Belgrade varies from the basic cheap-but-cheerful river boat hotel, boasting a superb location but rather basic on the amenities, to top of the range five star offerings, such as the luxurious Hyatt Regency, that attract top business people, touring pop stars and the local elite on a daily basis.
Some of the older 3-star Belgrade hotels have changed little since the time of Tito, but these are the places where you will truly experience the 'warts and all, keeping it real' vibe that so epitomises the Serbian capital.
As well as the Hyatt Regency, Belgrade's best hotels include the super plush Crystaland the classy Villa Jelena. Other top class Belgrade Hotels tend to be located a few kilometres outside the city centre, with the best of these including Zlatnik and the palatial sounding President.
Hoteli u Belgradu - as they are known in the Serbian language - used to have a rather poor reputation in the 1990s, but as Belgrade Tourism has begun to take off, and the city re-establishes itself as a regional cultural and business centre, competition in the hotel sector has greatly improved. There are, for example, at least 20 accommodation options that can be classed as upmarket Belgrade hotels. Amongst their number are several recognisable international hotel brands including the Holiday Inn Belgradeand two hotels belonging to Best Western, while others deserving mention includeMajestic, Europa and the centrally located Balkan Hotel.
Decent mid-range Belgrade hotels with good central locations include the Park Hoteland Kasina. Neither is exactly luxurious, but both are clean, close to all the main tourist sites and have a certain Serbian charm.
If budget hotels are your thing then consider overnighting in Belgrade at The Bristol,BG City Hotel, or the 80-year-old Prag.
We can also offer you hotels close to Belgrade Airport if you have flights to Belgrade arriving very late at night or departing at the crack of dawn. Remember, however, that we are here to ensure that you get the very best out of your time in Belgrade and also offer inbound and outbound airport transfers, should you wish to base yourself in and around the city centre for the entirity of your stay.
