One place that no tourist seems to want to miss is Belgrade Fortress. Made up of Kalemegdan Park, the Upper Town and the Lower Town, there has been some form of fortification here overlooking the Danube and Sava rivers since Roman times, but much of what you see today dates back to the nineteenth century. This main Belgrade thoroughfare buzzes with life 52 weeks per year, and is home to many of Belgrade's most attractive nineteenth century buildings, as well as many of its finest boutique shops.

Kosancicev Venac Street is another street that you should factor into your sightseeing itinerary. This delightful cobbled street gives the visitor a good sense of how a typical Belgrade street looked and felt like before the conflicts of the twentieth century took their toll. Kosancicev Venac is undoubtedly one of the more bohemian places in Belgrade and, although not as impressive as Skadarlija, its quirky galleries and imaginative cafes give it a more earthy feel than its more famous counterpart.

Skadarlija is picture postcard Belgrade - one of the enduring images of the Serbian capital that often features in Belgrade Guide Books and tourist magazines. Although its popularity with tourists means it is not quite the de facto bohemain quarter it once was, Skadarlija retains a charm and Old World feel that makes a visit here a must.
